New Arboricultural
Association Senior Technical Officer
Dr Emma Gilmartin joins the Association from January 2nd 2024 as new Senior Technical Officer
The Arboricultural Association is pleased to announce that Dr Emma Gilmartin has been appointed as the new Senior Technical Officer, further widening and developing the skill set of the organisation’s technical team.
Starting in January 2024 Emma will be involved in all aspects of the Association’s technical output, helping shape the direction of the Association, and the arboricultural profession as a whole.
Emma holds a PhD in fungal ecology from Cardiff University and has produced a range of publications relevant to arboriculture, including research on wood decay, veteranisation, deadwood invertebrates and the State of the UK’s Woods and Trees 2021.
An active member and supporter of the association, Emma was a session chair at the 2022 ‘What is a tree?’ conference and a speaker at last year’s Arboricultural Association conference at the University of Warwick. Presenting an enlightening and thought-provoking session on conservation research and the development of evidence-informed policy and practice. In 2020 Emma also featured in one of our most popular Wednesday Webinars ever, ‘Trees and Fungi’ with David Humphries.
The team at the Malthouse are thrilled to welcome Emma, who strengthens our technical department; bringing a wealth of knowledge and a new perspective as the Association continues to promote arboriculture to the general public, our communities, politicians, policymakers and allied industries.
