Pest and diseases play more and more a major part of tree management in urban areas. Climate change and urban design often promotes the success of tree diseases. We offer the opportunity to get the latest information from two leading experts in this industry.
The goal of this Ireland Branch knowledge day is to provide practical information based on scientific knowledge about these four infestations that meet the needs of the Tree Managers working in the urban environment in Ireland.

Speaker information
Henry Kuppen
Henry is a Arboricultural Consultant from the Netherlands with over 40 years of professional experience in managing trees in the urban environment. He is specialized in reasonable management of pest and diseases from a holistic approach. He works as Tree Ambassador at Terra Nostra, Knowlegde Center for Trees and Soils and is one of the Dutch leading experts on pest and diseases which he likes to name tree guests.
He is actively involved in the education of existing and new generation professionals about maintenance and importance of trees and also works as supervisor at the European Arboricultural Council. Henry is an accomplished public speaker who shares his knowledge by giving passionate talks and workshops to other professionals around the world.
Jan Willem de Groot
Jan Willem is the CEO of Terra Nostra, a leading tree consulting company serving The Netherlands and Belgium. With over 28 years in arboriculture, he is passionate about enhancing the health and longevity of trees in urban and natural environments.
In 2016, Jan Willem co-authored the book Trees: A Lifespan Approach, offering valuable insights into pruning practices for both young and mature trees. He also founded the Nederlandse Boominfodag (Dutch Tree Care Conference), which celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2024. Right now he contributes as the program manager.
Jan Willem is actively involved in the arboriculture community, serving as a board member of the Dutch ISA chapter and representing The Netherlands in the European Arboriculture Council (EAC). In 2024, he was honoured to join the Executive Committee of the EAC. One of the proudest moments of his career was receiving the ISA 2024 President’s Award during the 100th anniversary of the ISA in Atlanta, recognising his contributions to the arboriculture field.
