TACP is seeking a motivated Trainee Arb Surveyor or Graduate to support the delivery of high-quality arboricultural advice across development, infrastructure, and land management projects.

Working under the guidance of a Principal Arboricultural Consultant, the successful candidate will assist in the surveying, assessment, and reporting of trees within planning and land-use contexts, gaining structured experience in consultancy-led arboriculture.

This is a development-focused role designed to support progression toward professional accreditation and Chartered status.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support and progressively undertake:

Tree Survey & Inspection
  • BS5837 tree surveys
  • Preliminary tree risk assessments
  • Tree condition assessments
  • Data capture using GPS / digital systems
Planning & Development Support
  • Assisting with Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA)
  • Supporting Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS)
  • Tree Constraints Plans (TCP)
  • Root Protection Area interpretation
Reporting

Assisting with:

  • Technical reports
  • Planning responses
  • Mitigation strategies
  • Tree protection specifications
Woodland & Green Infrastructure
  • Supporting preparation of woodland management plans
  • Assisting with GI planning inputs
  • Site-based ecological awareness
Site Work
  • Attending development sites
  • Supporting project monitoring
  • Assisting with compliance inspections

Essential & Preferred Qualifications

Level 4/5 qualification or equivalent experience in:

  • Arboriculture, Forestry or Environmental Management (tree-related focus)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Interest in planning / development interface
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions

Desirable (but not essential)

  • GIS (ArcGIS) or OTISS familiarity
  • Basic CAD awareness
  • Knowledge of BS5837
  • Tree inspection experience
  • Understanding of planning systems

This opportunity will provide a competitive salary circa £25-£30k (depending on experience), plus company pension and health insurance scheme, professional subscriptions paid, a 28-day holiday allowance (including bank holidays), plus 1 additional day per year up to 5 days, 2 volunteer days/year and the opportunity for career development within an established environmental consultancy including working with Landscape Architects, Ecologists and Environmental Planners.
