TACP is seeking a motivated Trainee Arb Surveyor or Graduate to support the delivery of high-quality arboricultural advice across development, infrastructure, and land management projects.
Working under the guidance of a Principal Arboricultural Consultant, the successful candidate will assist in the surveying, assessment, and reporting of trees within planning and land-use contexts, gaining structured experience in consultancy-led arboriculture.
This is a development-focused role designed to support progression toward professional accreditation and Chartered status.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support and progressively undertake:
Tree Survey & Inspection
- BS5837 tree surveys
- Preliminary tree risk assessments
- Tree condition assessments
- Data capture using GPS / digital systems
Planning & Development Support
- Assisting with Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA)
- Supporting Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS)
- Tree Constraints Plans (TCP)
- Root Protection Area interpretation
Reporting
Assisting with:
- Technical reports
- Planning responses
- Mitigation strategies
- Tree protection specifications
Woodland & Green Infrastructure
- Supporting preparation of woodland management plans
- Assisting with GI planning inputs
- Site-based ecological awareness
Site Work
- Attending development sites
- Supporting project monitoring
- Assisting with compliance inspections
Essential & Preferred Qualifications
Level 4/5 qualification or equivalent experience in:
- Arboriculture, Forestry or Environmental Management (tree-related focus)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong written communication skills
- Interest in planning / development interface
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions
Desirable (but not essential)
- GIS (ArcGIS) or OTISS familiarity
- Basic CAD awareness
- Knowledge of BS5837
- Tree inspection experience
- Understanding of planning systems

This opportunity will provide a competitive salary circa £25-£30k (depending on experience), plus company pension and health insurance scheme, professional subscriptions paid, a 28-day holiday allowance (including bank holidays), plus 1 additional day per year up to 5 days, 2 volunteer days/year and the opportunity for career development within an established environmental consultancy including working with Landscape Architects, Ecologists and Environmental Planners.
