Do you want to make a difference?

Here at Eastleigh Borough Council, we are committed to making a positive difference for all the residents, businesses and visitors to Eastleigh, and we are proud to be delivering on our promise to create sustainable and healthy communities and increase employment and wellbeing opportunities for all.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Arboriculture Manager to join the Ecology and Trees team within our Neighbourhood and Green Spaces directorate.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced arboriculture practitioner to join the Ecology and Trees team to manage our statutory functions, such as responding to planning consultations, TPO administration and field work to ensure the health of our woodland and trees. In addition to these core responsibilities, you will be line managing the Arboriculture team and will have the opportunity to shape and develop the team for the future. You will also have the chance to work on various projects, including planting 160,000 new trees, contributing to environmental enhancement schemes and working closely with our tree nursery.

About You

You will have a genuine appreciation of trees in their natural setting and will also have extensive experience of managing trees in a town planning context. You will have a relevant qualification and extensive working knowledge of arboriculture and TPOs, particularly in relation to planning consultations and technical requirements. With the Council recognising the climate change and environmental emergency, managing both our current and future tree stock has never been more important. If you would like to be part of our ambitious approach, then we would love to hear from you.

About us

In return, you will be working with a great team in an organisation that is truly committed to a flexible, inclusive and enjoyable work environment. We are passionate about personal and professional development for all staff, offering exceptional conditions of employment as an accredited Living Wage Employer, plus the chance to make a lasting difference to the community of Eastleigh.

Our benefits include:

  • 26–29 days’ annual leave (dependent on local government continuous service)
  • Flexible working arrangements and the ability to accrue up to 2 days’ additional leave per month (subject to operational requirements – pro rata for part-time staff)
  • Defined benefit pension scheme
  • Places Leisure, Eastleigh – 30% off full membership
  • Confidential employee advice and support programme
  • Excellent working environment
